Take-home estimates exclude Social Security, Medicare, state and local taxes, and tax credits. “Net Gain” is cash plus modeled 401(k) and HSA contributions, not investment profit. Read all assumptions and exclusions.
| Scenario | Total Comp | Net Take-Home | Federal Tax | Effective Rate | Net Gain | Delta vs Baseline |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Example Salary | $62,608 | $57,275 | $5,333 | 8.5% | $57,275 | +$0 |
Choose a tax year and filing status, then enter annual salary and bonus amounts. Add eligible pretax healthcare, traditional 401(k), and HSA contributions. Duplicate a scenario to change one assumption at a time and compare the result with your first scenario. All amounts are annual U.S. dollars.
The model subtracts pretax contributions and your selected standard or itemized deduction before applying progressive federal income tax brackets. Only the portion of taxable income within each bracket receives that bracket’s rate. A raise does not move every dollar of income into the highest bracket you reach.
For a single filer using the $16,100 base standard deduction and no pretax contributions, this model produces $43,900 of taxable income. The first $12,400 is taxed at 10% and the remaining $31,500 at 12%, giving $5,020 of federal income tax before credits. The modeled effective rate is about 8.4% of salary.
The resulting $54,980 cash estimate excludes payroll and state taxes; it is not a paycheck prediction or a refund estimate. Contribution limits, eligibility rules, credits, and other exclusions may change actual results. See the calculation guide and worked examples before using a comparison to inform a decision.
